There’s a reason more and more commercial facilities are going with LED lighting. It has not only become the go-to choice for new industrial installations but in many cases, it also makes sense to replace the old traditional lighting system with LED Industrial Lighting as the latter offers a great range of benefits which makes it worth it in the long term.
With that said, let us walk you through a few major advantages of going with LED industrial lighting for commercial facilities.
Lower Costs
LED Industrial Lighting offers cost savings in a variety of ways. It consumes considerably less energy than its traditional counterparts, its functioning doesn’t involve wastage of energy as it does with some other type of lighting especially after a certain point of time of their lifetime, as well as costs significantly less in maintenance costs.
When these three main factors are combined, you’re assured of an incredible amount of cost savings in the long term. And while halogen or fluorescent lights are typically cheaper than LED lights, the former need to be replaced much faster than LED lights. So LED lights can save you big in the long run that you would otherwise have to spend on replacing the traditional lighting system.
Way More Energy Efficient
When it comes to energy efficiency, LED lights absolutely blow away their traditional incandescent and halogen counterparts.
The Department of Energy of the US states that while traditional incandescent bulbs may only use 10 percent of the energy they consume for producing light and the rest just ends up producing heat, halogen lights aren’t much better with only 20 percent of the energy being used for producing visible light and the rest being converted into heat.
The DOE, however, mentions that LED Industrial Lights are in a class of their own here as they use up to 80 percent less energy than the two types of lights we discussed above. This is because LED lights tend to use as much as up to 80 percent of the energy they consume to produce visible light, and only waste 20 percent in producing heat.
This not only means great energy saving for you right there, but the savings would actually turn out to be even higher as you would need to spend much less on your facility’s cooling system (particularly the air conditioners) thanks to less heat being produced by your lighting fixtures.
Safer Option
Fluorescent bulbs tend to contain mercury. So with a lot of these bulbs in your facility, you surely do run the risk of your employees being exposed to this harmful element whenever they break.
Now, a few cases of some mercury exposure might not sound too much of a problem, but they may turn out to be a bigger issue than you can imagine in the long run.
LED lights, on the other hand, are perfectly safe for both your employees and the environment, thanks to not having either mercury or carbon dioxide.
Longer Lifespan
As we mentioned in the beginning, LED lights tend to last much, much longer than every other type of lighting out there.
The average lifespan of LED lights in a commercial environment is anywhere between 50,000 to 100,000 hours. No other type of lighting manages to offer more than 35,000 hours in terms of their lifespan.
While fluorescent lights are a distant second with an average lifespan of 24,000 to 35,000 hours, HID are way far behind at 10,000 to 24,000 hours. Most halogen and incandescent bulbs have a terrible lifespan of just up to 4,000 and 2,000 hours, respectively.
Assuming that the lights are used in your facility for around eight hours every day, LED Industrial lights would last you about 10 years before you have to replace them. With any other type of lighting, you would have to replace them at least twice or thrice in this time period.
But there’s more to it. LED lights also offer better visibility than the other types of lighting we discussed above. But the difference in visibility is enormous when they reach about 80 percent of their lifespan.
Many other types of traditional lights produce much less light after they reach 80 percent of their lifespan. LED lights, however, tend to produce almost just as much light as they do on the first day of installation right till the end of their lifespan.
Amazing Versatility
LED Industrial lights are incredibly versatile in that they can be installed almost anywhere in your commercial facility, including the parking lot, display room, office space and so on. They work great for both indoor and outdoor usage.
Similarly, they also allow much more control in the form of their ability to be dimmable and features like daylighting and occupancy sensors.
So for instance, one of these features means that you will be able to control their level of brightness, allowing you to reduce their brightness when there’s enough natural light and vice versa.
