300W Floodlight LED Sports Fixtures
Double-headed LED Fixture on 20-foot Pole
CASE STUDY
Rock Creek Community Center partnered with National LED to complete a sports facility lighting retrofit in Cypress, Texas. The project focused on improving light output, increasing safety, and reducing energy usage by upgrading outdated metal halide fixtures to modern LED sports lighting
Opportunity
The community center experienced inconsistent light output and visibility issues from existing 400-watt metal halide fixtures. In addition to performance concerns, certain areas of the basketball court were underlit, creating safety and security issues during evening and late-night use. The goal was to improve overall illumination, address dark zones, and reduce energy consumption without overcomplicating the infrastructure.
Key challenges included:
- Inconsistent light output from existing 400-watt metal halide fixtures
- Dark and underlit areas around the basketball court
- High energy usage and limited nighttime visibility for safe use
Solution
National LED retrofitted the facility with 300-watt LED sports fixtures, replacing the existing 400-watt metal halides across all 18 light locations. Despite the lower wattage, the new LED fixtures delivered improved light output and uniform coverage.
To address lighting gaps near the basketball court, an additional electrical pull was added and a new 20-foot pole with a double-headed LED fixture was installed. This ensured better visibility during nighttime use and eliminated poorly lit areas around the court.
Key elements included:
- 18-light retrofit to 300W LED sports fixtures
- Added 20-foot pole with double-headed LED fixture
- Improved coverage with lower energy use
